Flux Wins Sub-Contract to Design 300 MW / 1,280 MWh of Utility-Scale Energy Storage

Flux Energy Systems, Inc. has been subcontracted to design and engineer 300 MW of front-of-the-meter battery energy storage systems (BESS) under leading solar and energy storage EPC contractor, Affordable Solar Inc.

The design scope encompasses 4 project sites located in California and Texas, ranging in size from 40 to 100 MW with a combined duration capacity of 1,280 MW.

Flux's scope for the BESS field electrical design varies from site to site, but includes low-voltage AC wiring, the design of the medium-voltage AC collection system, grounding system, oversight of fire detection design, and completion of the electrical studies. Flux will also provide procurement support including specifications for MV transformers and AC Distribution equipment.

Flux’s and Affordable Solar’s long history of working on challenging projects together allows them to apply innovative construction techniques to state-of-the-art BESS technology. The development of these new design concepts across a portfolio of projects is resulting in cost-effective projects with aggressive schedules. Lead-edge designs and compressed timelines add unique design challenges to the portfolio in addition to varying climates, disparate interconnection authorities, multiple foundation designs, and various project stakeholders.

Flux will provide engineering services through local permitting and issued-for-construction drawings.

Design and Engineering work is underway and expected to be completed by August 2020 with projects coming online in 2021.
